“Remind me why we doin’ this again?” Pluto said.

It was a quarter after midnight, and he and Lucky were parked in a third ward neighborhood, waiting for Reid to walk out of the ‘bando he was in. They’d been following him for the last couple days to learn his moves so that they could catch his ass off guard when he least expected.

Lucky didn’t feel like telling Pluto it was because Kirby had turned down his offer of moving back to Atlanta. Since she chose to stay in Houston he at least wanted to ensure that she was safe where she was.

“Man, I done already told you,” Lucky said.

Pluto dumped the ashes to his blunt out the passenger window. “Oh yeah, that’s right. This ‘bout that young ratchet at the fast food joint, right?”

“Aye, don’t call her that, man.”

Pluto put his hands up in mock surrender and laughed. “Oh, my bad, G. I forgot how protective you be over some pussy that ain’t even yours. Matter fact, I’mma start calling ya ass Super Man,” he said. “Since you be savin’ these hoes and shit.”

“Fuck you, nigga,” Lucky laughed.

At that moment, Reid stepped out of the trap and lit a cigarette.

“Tighten up, the nigga just walked out.”

Pluto ceased his shit-talking since they were back in killer-mode.

Reid slowly made his way across the street towards his souped-up Chevy. Lucky and Pluto climbed out their car at the same time, making sure to keep their presence undetected.

As soon as he reached for the door handle, Pluto brandished a rusty, steel pipe—

“The fuck?” Reid heard their footsteps from behind and quickly reached for his pistol.

WHAP!

Pluto cracked his ass in the head as hard as he could, immediately knocking him unconscious. When he dropped to the pavement, Lucky couldn’t tell if he was alive or dead. A large pool of blood poured from the gaping wound on the back of his head.

“C’mon, man, did you have to hit him that fucking hard?” Lucky asked.

Pluto just shrugged like it was no biggie.

Lucky shook his head in agitation. He didn’t want to kill the mothafucka. He just wanted to teach his ass a lesson. “Man, grab the nigga’s legs. Help me get him in the trunk ‘fore someone sees us.”

After tossing Reid’s unconscious body in their car, they hopped in and traveled northbound on Texas State Highway 146 towards the Fred Hartman Bridge. They were halfway across the cable-stayed bridge when Lucky pulled over to the side and parked. Cars zoomed past them, completely unaware of the deadly act they were preparing to commit.

Pluto climbed out first and rounded the car. When Lucky popped the trunk, Reid was finally coming to.

WHAP!

Pluto socked the shit out of his ass for the hell of it. That time, Lucky didn’t reprimand him. Reid certainly deserved the shit for beating up on a woman that was half his size.

“What the fuck man?” His voice came out muffled due to the blood building up in his mouth.

“I heard you like to terrorize women,” Lucky said.
